October 15, 2025 | Exploring San Jose's Transit-Oriented Development at Tamien Station
SPUR’s San Francisco Planning and Architecture Council (SPAC) and The Core Companies took a special guided tour of the new Tamien Station Apartments, located at 1221 Lick Avenue in San Jose.

Tamien Station is part of a larger transit-oriented development (TOD) designed to connect housing, transportation, and community amenities. The full project will bring 569 homes, including 135 affordable apartments in the first phase, directly adjacent to the Tamien Caltrain and VTA Light Rail station. With a mix of 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom units and on-site childcare, the development reflects a family-oriented approach to affordable housing.

The project raises important questions about how the region can integrate housing and transit to create more sustainable, accessible cities. This tour offers an opportunity to see the first phase of the project and discuss how large-scale TODs can address housing needs while shaping the future of urban growth in San Jose.
