Supporting Business Recovery in Response to COVID-19

Since the first Shelter-in-Place (SIP) orders were issued across 7 Bay Area health jurisdictions on March 16, 2020, many our region鈥檚 businesses have closed or dramatically altered or otherwise scaled back their operations. Many small, local-serving businesses have had to close, resulting in them having to make rapid and vexing decisions about how to adjust to being closed.

Professional and technical services companies have been trying to migrate to online environments, but this has not been without cost. And while businesses deemed 鈥渆ssential鈥 have been able to remain open, they have also had to make significant adjustments.

Recognizing the significance of the pandemic鈥檚 impact on our region鈥檚 businesses, the East Bay Economic Development Alliance (East Bay EDA) worked with cities and chambers of commerce from across the East Bay to learn more about the impacts from the SIP, how different federal, state, and local assistance programs were being tapped, and what resources are most essential to helping businesses reopen and become operational again as a 鈥渘ew normal鈥 sets in.
