The Case for Public Transit Fare Integration

The Bay Area has more than two dozen public transit operators and each sets its own fare policy. This has resulted in confusing and often inequitable fares and discount programs. Coordinating fares across all these agencies is challenging. However, fare coordination has the potential to make transit rides simpler and more equitable, which could lead to more transit riders and reduced burdens on riders with low incomes. The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) recently launched a study and business case for achieving fare integration. Join us to learn more about MTC's approach and how other cities are delivering simpler regional transit fare systems.
