The HayWired scenario explores the impact of a hypothetical earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 occurring on the Hayward Fault in the East Bay. The scenario has allowed researchers to examine the consequences of a major earthquake, advance risk analysis and inform disaster planning efforts. One impact study — the HayWired Communities at Risk analysis — focuses on Bay Area communities who face the greatest risk of displacement and the greatest challenges to long-term recovery. The analysis finds that the location, quality and quantity of housing is a critical factor in determining communities’ preparedness and long-term resilience in the face of an earthquake. This conversation, in particular, will focus on post-disaster housing challenges and opportunities. Join a panel of housing experts as they provide their perspective on the study results and policy implications of the HayWired Communities at Risk analysis.
